Having grown up close to the Bristol factory, and had contact with many of those involved in the design and manufacture of the marque, Spencer Lane-Jones was steeped in the Bristol tradition from an early age. Throughout his career as a professional engineer in the Army, he owned and restored several Bristols and other thoroughbred cars. On ‘retiring’ in 1987, he was persuaded by friends and fellow enthusiasts to open a small workshop specialising in the repair and restoration of Bristols.
From small beginnings, the business grew; special tools and jigs were acquired, together with a wide range of spare parts and documentation pertaining to all Bristol models. As the business expanded, additional staff were required; top quality craftsmen were attracted to join the venture and an enthusiastic and dedicated team was established. The business moved into purpose-built premises on a prime site in the middle of Warminster in 1994.
The business eventually outgrew its sole trader roots: it was acquired by a group of Bristol-owning enthusiasts and was incorporated as a Limited Company on 1 February 1997, with Spencer as a shareholder and Managing Director. The new arrangement has brought the business greater financial and managerial resources.
